What Are Revisions?
Round #1 and Round #2 Revisions are your opportunity to review your map rendering, and to submit revisions to ensure the rendering is accurate. Revisions include adding missing buildings, or removing/replacing any that have been demolished, updating sidewalks and walking paths, and ensuring that the overall layout of the map is accurate. When submitting Revisions, your focus should be on the buildings and facilities, streets and parking lots, and sidewalks and pathways.
Hint: Revisions take place only during Onboarding, and are distinct from Map Updates, which typically take place only after your map has already launched. Once the two rounds of revisions are complete, any changes to the renderings moving forward will go through the Concept3D map updates process.
Further down are the steps for how to submit Round #1 and Round #2 Revisions in your content management system (CMS).
Note 1: Revisions take place within the existing Render Boundary. Any extensions to the Render Boundary may be considered Map Updates and are subject to an additional cost.
Note 2: Revisions does not include edits to Dynamic Labels, as these can be completed directly in the CMS. Ask your Onboarding Success Manager for assistance if you have questions on editing a Dynamic Label.
How to add Round 1 & 2 Revisions in the CMS
When it is time to add your Round 1 & 2 revisions to the CMS, there will already be subcategories created for you underneath the Map Edits category. These are named "Round #1 Revisions" and "Round #2 Revisions".
You'll notice that inside these categories there is also a "Model Edits" or "3D Structure Edits" subategory. These are for revisions that require a new 3D model to be made.
Process for Adding Revisions:
1. Create a new Location for each map revision by clicking ‘+ Add New Location’. Be sure to title your location clearly, e.g. “Add new Residence Hall”, or “Remove building”.
2. Select your Marker Type from the Location Toolbar to indicate the area of your rendering that needs updating. Refer to our help article, Location Toolbar Explained, for details on the different marker types
3. Add as much detail in your Revision as possible. By providing clear and concise instructions in the description, as well as clear, high-resolution images, you can greatly facilitate our Production Team’s efforts.
Hint: Refer to our help article, Data Needed, Site Plans, File Types, and Examples, for information on what data is helpful during Revisions.
4. Add your revision to the correct subcategory under the Map Edits parent category. For example, if you are in Round #1 Revisions, then place the revision under the Round #1 Revisions subcategory.
Note: Under each Revisions category there is a 3D Structure Edits subcategory, specifically for edits to 3D models. If you are not sure if your edit constitutes a 3D Structure edit, it is sufficient to place it in the Revisions category itself!
Hint: Be careful that your location is in the correct category and NOT in multiple categories.
5. Make sure to hit Save so that you can move on to creating your next Revision; lather, rinse, and repeat until you have finished reviewing and submitted all your Revisions.
6. After you have finished adding your Revisions, be sure to Publish them from the Publish tab.
7. Once all revisions are added and ready for Concept3D, notify your Onboarding Success Manager, and/or mark the task complete in your Project Timeline.
Data Needed
The information below breaks down what data is needed for our team to complete the different types of updates and how to add them within the CMS.
Map Imagery Edits:
These edits consist of path edits, tree edits, road/parking changes, landscaping shapes, and simple color changes to buildings.
Data Needed:
- A simple and descriptive Title (eg. Remove Path)
- Any onsite or overhead photos that help to convey the edits.
- A simple and precise description of the requested edit if the title isn't enough.
- If available: PDFs, Revit files, or SketchUp files (uploaded to Upload Data Link In the upper right corner of your CMS Map). Attaching these to your edit location may not work.
3D Structure Edits:
These edits consist of new or updated buildings and structures that need a 3D model.
3D Structures: New buildings or changes to existing buildings, statues or sculptures.
Data Needed:
- Descriptive title (eg. “Add new residence hall”)
- Onsite photos that show all sides of the building, or at least the south/east/west sides (most maps are rendered on a north orientation)
- A clear and precise description of the edit being requested.
- If available: PDFs, Revit files, CAD files, or SketchUp files (uploaded to Upload Data Link In the upper right corner of your CMS Map). Attaching these to your edit location may not work.
Street and Road Label Edits:
These edits refer to all streets, roads, and highways that may need a label added directly to the rendering.
Data Needed:
- Clear, descriptive title (eg. Add Label for "Highway 121")
- Correct spelling
- Correct placement of label if moving to a new location
Example:
Interior Edits:
For maps with Interiors only.
These edits consist of changes to existing floor plans, addition of new floor plans or removal of any interior floor plans.
Hint: It could be helpful to group these edits under a new subcategory inside your Revisions category, e.g. Interior Edits
Data Needed:
- Descriptive Title (eg. "Close off doorway")
- Updated floor plans uploaded via the Upload Data link at the top right of the CMS
- If no updated floor plans are available, screenshots and markups on those screenshots can be used as long as they are clear and legible.
- A simple and precise description of the edit being requested
Timeline
Once the the revisions are finished being entered into the CMS, our production team will assess the amount of time it will take to complete the revisions. Typical revisions take between 6 to 8 weeks, depending on the scope and complexity of the edits.
Additional Information
Providing Large and non-Image Files (Revit, DWG & CAD, PDF, ZIP, etc.)
You can upload large and non-image files using the 'Upload Data' link at the top right of your Map CMS:
You can also upload directly to the corresponding Drive from the 'Upload/View Map Data Files' button in the top bar of your Map CMS.
If you do not see either of these links, make sure to contact your Onboarding or Partner Success Manager.
Typical File Types and Examples
- PDFs with overhead Site Plans and/or Elevations of all sides.
- CAD Files
- 3D Files (Revit Files, SketchUp Files, Rhino Files, etc.)
- Renderings and/or images that show building material and colors can be uploaded to the location in CMS directly as long as they are in JPG or PNG format.
See our help article, Data Needed, Site Plans, File Types, and Examples, for more information.
Important Notes:
Base exterior renderings include buildings (labels), roads (labels), sidewalks, parking lots, water, general crosswalks, general tree placement (for 3D maps), general woodchip areas, and any additional details outlined in a contract or SOW. Renderings are based on current Google Maps imagery unless high-resolution aerial imagery is provided at the start of the project. Custom features such as detailed landscaping, custom trees, path paver detail, street signs, streetlights, and custom crosswalks are not included in the standard map scope but can be added upon request with a scope adjustment.
