Localist Register integrates with Stripe Tax to automatically calculate accurate sales tax for your ticketed events. This feature ensures compliance with local, state, and federal tax requirements by calculating taxes based on event location, attendee billing address, and current tax laws in the United States.
Things You'll Need
Before you can use sales tax calculations in Localist Register, ensure you have the following:
- A Localist account with Platform Admin, Calendar Manager, or System Administrator access.
- Stripe account with Stripe Tax enabled
- A Localist account with Event Author permissions or higher for creating taxable tickets
Initial Stripe Tax Setup
Before configuring tax settings in Localist, you must first enable and configure Stripe Tax in your Stripe account. Please complete Stripe Tax setup by following Stripe's official documentation.
Key steps you'll need to complete in Stripe:
- Enable Stripe Tax in your Stripe dashboard
- Add tax registrations for jurisdictions where you collect tax
- Test tax calculations to ensure proper setup
Once Stripe Tax is active in your Stripe account, you can proceed to configure the integration within Localist.
Getting Started
Before events can collect sales taxes, we must enable the feature for your calendar. Please reach out to support@concept3d.com for help with this.
Configuring a Default Tax for All Tickets
You can set the tax product all new Register tickets will use by default on Platform Settings > Register.
Creating Taxable Tickets
When creating or editing Register tickets for your event:
- Enable Taxable to start charging sales tax for that specific ticket. Only enable this for tickets that legally require tax collection. Please consult your organization's tax policy if unsure.
- Select a Taxable Product that best describes the purpose of your ticket. Please see this help article for more information on taxable product options.
Attendee Checkout Experience
When attendees register for events with taxable tickets, they'll see a streamlined checkout process that automatically calculates applicable sales tax:
- During checkout, attendees will be prompted to enter their complete billing address, including state and postal code.
- If you choose to pass fees onto the customer, purchasers will see an order confirmation page and receipt that includes an itemized breakdown of ticket price, tax collected, and total paid.
Important Notes
Localist does NOT store any billing address or information throughout this process. We collect this information only to calculate any applicable sales tax based on your organization's address, the event location, and the purchaser's address.
If the attendee is located in a jurisdiction where the event tickets are not subject to sales tax, no tax will be calculated or collected.
Stripe automatically handles both full and partial refunds, ensuring transactions and finances are accurate.
