Does Concept3D work with other data systems?
Yes! Our goal is to make the map a single source of information for your business. If there are other applications your organization uses, we can create a data feed to incorporate that information onto the map. As long as the content can be associated with a location, we can place it on the map!
What types of content can Concept3D ingest?
As long as the data can be delivered in an understandable format, we can overlay that information onto your map. We’ve worked with both homegrown systems as well as 3rd party integrations. Some of which include:
- Content Feeds: ESRI (ArcGIS), Homegrown Systems, Ungerboeck, Simpleview
- Live Bus Tracking: RideSystems, Transloc, DoubleMap, Syncromatics, Passio, GTFS
- Event Feeds: Localist
- Video Live Streams
- Asset Tracking
- Capacity Feeds (Think Parking Lots, Computer or Printer Labs)
What if I don’t see a feed Concept3D has implemented before?
Our development team has a certain mentality - “it is not a question of IF, but HOW”. Our developers can look at any feed/API to determine how to get that content on the map. This may include some custom work but we can most likely make it happen.
How does Concept3D Integrate Data Feeds?
Concept3D categorizes feed types into three categories: Core Feeds, Supplemental Feeds, and Real-Time Feeds.
A Core Feed pulls in location data and maps it to a specific category within the Concept3D CMS.
- Required Data: for a core feed include Latitude and Longitude, a location title. A description is not required but strongly recommended.
- Data Modification: Data overlaid on the map via a Core Feed cannot be modified through the CMS and it must be modified through the source of record.
- Data Storage: This information is not stored in the Concept3D CMS, but it is stored in our search server, and updated nightly, so it can be searched on the front end map.
Supplemental Feeds use a unique identifier to map specific location data to a single location within the CMS.
- Required Data: Data required for a supplemental feed includes a unique identifier and a description.
- Data Modification: Supplemental Feeds allow the location content to come in from two places, the 3rd party application, as well as the Concept3D CMS if desired. The information added via Concept3D's CMS can be edited there, while the information appended to the location via the feed must be edited in the data's source of record.
- Data Storage: This information is not stored in the Concept3D CMS, but it is stored in our search server, and updated nightly, so it can be searched on the front end map.
- Use Case: Supplemental feeds are common when the business has information about a location in a 3rd party system but does not store the latitude or longitude needed to use a core feed to place the information on the map. A supplemental feed is also helpful when information associated with a location comes from two different systems. Multiple supplemental feeds can be associated with a single location.
Real-time Feeds: pull information in real-time into the web user experience. The most classic example is bus tracking. This content is not searchable on the front end and is not stored on Concept3D's platform.
How does the data get refreshed? Is that a manual process?
Once the feed is set up and implemented, our team will set up a CronJob to refresh the data. Scheduling for this can happen in two ways:
1. Nightly schedule
2. Real-time schedule
This happens automatically and no extra work is needed on your end.
What format does my data need to be in?
The preferred data format for feeds Concept3D implements is JSON. We are able to implement other data formats but prefer JSON when available. If you have your data in HTML and want to try to implement the content yourself, ask your client success manager if our "feed embed" tool is a good solution for your needs!
Can media come from another source?
Yes! As long as there is a way to associate to the correct location (most likely through a unique identifier), we can feed in media content.
Does a feed integration come at an extra cost?
Yes, there is an extra cost for a feed integration. Please contact your Account Executive or Client Success Manager for more information. In order to provide accurate pricing, we will need to see a sample data set and fully understand what the end goal is.
