Overview
A directions link (also called a wayfinding URL) opens your interactive map with a route already filled in. Share it in emails, on event pages, in apps, or as a QR code.
There are two ways to make one:
- Copy it from your map: The quickest option. Get directions, then click Share.
- Build it yourself: Best when you need many links, or want to set the start, destination, names, or accessible routing yourself.
Copy a link from your map
- Open your map and get directions between two places.
- Click Share in the directions panel and copy the link.
When the start or destination is a location on your map, the link points to that location instead of a spot on the map, so it keeps working even if the location's pin moves later.
Before you start
-
Your Map ID: The number after
id=in your map's URL. For example,1216inhttps://map.concept3d.com/?id=1216. - Directions turned on for your map: Concept3D wayfinding, third-party directions, or both. For walking routes on Concept3D wayfinding, your network must cover the places you're linking between. Not sure which your map uses? Ask your Partner Success Manager.
About floor levels
- Level 0 usually means outdoors at ground level. Level 1 is usually the first floor inside a building, but this depends on how your map is set up.
- Some maps go from ground level straight to an upper floor, for example because of a hillside or skybridge entrance.
- You only need a level when you use coordinates. Location IDs use the location's floor.
- Levels apply only to Concept3D wayfinding routes. Third-party directions don't use levels.
Build a directions link
You can name the start and destination of a route in any of three ways. Use whichever is easiest, and mix them if you like.
| Option | How to write it | Where to find it |
|---|---|---|
| Instance ID |
fromMrkiId:12345 and toMrkiId:67890
|
In the Location Editor, under Admin & editing tools, copy Instance ID, not the ID above it. It appears once the location is published. |
| Reference ID |
fromRef:LOT-A and toRef:SCI-101
|
The Reference field in the Location Editor. Each Reference ID must be unique on your map. |
| Coordinates |
from:{Lat},{Lng},{Level} and to:{Lat},{Lng},{Level}
|
Use these for spots that aren't locations on your map, such as a parking lot entrance. |
Examples
// Instance IDs https://map.concept3d.com/?id=1216#?d/type:walking;ada:false;fromMrkiId:12345;toMrkiId:67890 // Reference IDs https://map.concept3d.com/?id=1216#?d/type:walking;ada:false;fromRef:LOT-A;toRef:SCI-101 // Mixed: coordinates to an Instance ID https://map.concept3d.com/?id=1216#?d/type:walking;ada:false;from:42.816600,-75.545119,0;toMrkiId:67890
Good to know
- No floor level needed with an ID: The map uses the location's floor.
-
Names are optional with an ID: Leave out
startNameandendNameto show the location's name. -
Spaces in a Reference ID: Replace each space with
%20. - If a location can't be found: Visitors see a message asking them to choose a starting or ending point.
Parts of a directions link
Every directions link follows this pattern. Separate each part with a semicolon (;). This version uses coordinates. For a location, swap in an Instance ID or Reference ID.
https://map.concept3d.com/?id={MapID}#?d/type:walking;ada:{true/false};from:{Lat},{Lng},{Level};to:{Lat},{Lng},{Level};startName:{Text};endName:{Text}
| Part | How to write it | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Map ID | ?id=1216 |
Which map opens. Each map has its own ID. |
| Directions | #?d/ |
Opens the directions panel. Everything after it fills in the route. |
| Travel mode | type:walking |
How visitors travel: walking, driving, cycling, or transit. Use a mode your map offers. See Which directions does my link use? below. |
| Accessible routing |
ada:true or ada:false
|
Use true to find wheelchair-accessible routes. This works with Concept3D wayfinding when accessible paths are marked in your network. |
| Start |
from:{Lat},{Lng},{Level}, fromMrkiId:, or fromRef:
|
Where the route starts. |
| Destination |
to:{Lat},{Lng},{Level}, toMrkiId:, or toRef:
|
Where the route ends. |
| Start name | startName:{Text} |
Optional. Custom text in the starting point field. Use %20 for spaces. |
| Destination name | endName:{Text} |
Optional. Custom text in the destination field. Use %20 for spaces. |
Which directions does my link use?
Directions links work with both Concept3D wayfinding and third-party directions, and Instance IDs and Reference IDs work with both. The travel mode decides which one builds the route:
| Travel mode | Directions used |
|---|---|
walking |
Concept3D wayfinding if your map has it. Otherwise, third-party directions. |
driving |
Third-party directions. If your map has Concept3D wayfinding, the route ends with a walking route from the nearest parking. |
cycling |
Third-party directions. |
transit |
Third-party directions, on Google-based maps only. |
Example
https://map.concept3d.com/?id=1216#?d/type:walking;ada:false;from:42.8166003230418,-75.5451197729595,0;to:42.81945815294014,-75.53609348667173,0;startName:Start%20Location;endName:End%20Location
What visitors see
Here's how startName and endName appear in the directions panel.
Common use cases
| Use case | Example |
|---|---|
| Event coordination | Email attendees a link with the route from the nearest parking area to the event venue. |
| QR codes | Post QR codes outside classrooms that show the walking route from a parking lot, or in parking areas to guide visitors to their final destination. |
| Mobile app links | Add links in your app to routes from major landmarks, such as the library, dormitories, or parking garages. |
| Parking integrations | Have your parking system send visitors a link from their parking spot to their destination, such as a building entrance. |
Tips for Success
- Test before you share: Open the link in a private browser window to make sure the route loads.
- Use location IDs when you can: Links with an Instance ID or Reference ID keep working if a pin moves.
