The AI-powered description tool helps you create engaging, informative, and customizable content for your interactive map locations and tours—directly within the CMS.
Whether you're writing new content or updating existing copy, this feature makes the process faster while giving you full control over tone, structure, and accuracy.
What Can the AI Description Tool Do?
- Automatically generate descriptions using map data like the location name and context.
- Customize the tone and creativity level of the generated content.
- Choose whether to append to or replace existing content.
- Provide prompts to influence the output.
- Access AI tools with a right-click on selected text.
- Use for both map locations and tours.
How to Generate a Description Using AI
Step 1: Open or Create a Location or Tour Stop
-
In the CMS, navigate to the Locations or Tours section.
-
You can either create a new location or tour stop, or edit an existing one.
-
Scroll to the Description field.
Step 2: Select "Generate with AI"
-
In the Description field, select the Generate with AI option.
-
If content already exists, you'll be prompted to choose:
-
Append – Adds new AI content below the current text.
-
Replace – Overwrites the existing text with new AI-generated content.
-
Pro Tip: If there is already content in the description field, you can also select text and right-click to enhance just that section using AI.
Step 3: Input a Prompt (Optional)
The system will auto-fill a default prompt and ensure the location’s name and map context are provided to the model to help you get started. You can edit or replace this prompt at any time.
The more specific your prompt, the more control you’ll have over the AI-generated description. You can keep it simple or include formatting instructions and must-mention details.
Tips for crafting a strong prompt:
-
Include key facts or features you want highlighted (e.g., hours, nearby buildings, purpose).
-
Add formatting instructions if desired—such as “use bullet points” or “include a short list of features.”
-
Mention anything that must be included (e.g., “make sure to mention accessible entrances”).
Prompt examples:
-
Describe this location for prospective students. Include a short paragraph followed by bullet points for hours, services offered, accessibility, and nearby landmarks.
-
Write a description for visiting parents. Keep the tone neutral and include historical significance, parking info, and nearby restrooms. End with a sentence about the space’s typical usage.
-
This is a tour stop. Include a brief narrative about the building's origin, how it’s used today, and any fun facts. Limit to 100 words.
-
For an event space: generate a short intro paragraph, then bullet points for capacity, AV capabilities, booking process, and food policies. Audience is faculty and staff.
| Level | Prompt | Why It Works (or Doesn’t) |
| Ok | “Write a description of the campus library.” |
✅ Simple and will get a response ❌ Vague—AI has to guess format and audience and must-include info. |
| Better | “Write an informative description of the campus library for prospective students. Mention study spaces, hours 8-5, and available services.” |
✅ Adds audience and specific content to include. ❌ Still lacks formatting and structure cues. |
| Best | “Create an informative description of the campus library for prospective students. Start with a short paragraph introducing the space, then use bullet points to list: hours 8-5, study spaces, available services, and accessibility features. End with a sentence inviting them to visit.” |
✅ Fully structured. ✅ Clear audience, format, and must-include info. ✅ Minimal edits likely needed. |
Step 4: Select a Tone
Choose from eight tone options based on your content type and audience:
-
Friendly: Warm, casual, and approachable. Great for student- or visitor-facing content.
-
Professional: Polished and formal. Ideal for administrative or institutional content.
-
Informative: Clear, factual, and accessible. Great for general use.
-
Persuasive: Promotional and high-energy. Use for events and calls to action.
-
Academic: Structured and scholarly. Best for research or faculty locations.
-
Technical: Precise and detail-oriented. Ideal for IT or infrastructure-heavy areas.
-
Storytelling: Narrative and emotionally engaging. Perfect for historic or commemorative places.
-
Tour Guide: Conversational and lightly persuasive. Good for guiding users through a space.
Step 5: Set the Creativity Level
Use the creativity slider to adjust the writing style:
-
Lower levels provide more factual and structured content.
-
Higher levels allow for more expressive or imaginative language. These levels are more likely to hallucinate content.
Help text with examples is available in the CMS to guide your selection.
Step 6: Review & Insert the AI Description
After generating the content:
-
Read through the suggested description to ensure it meets your needs and is factual.
-
Generated descriptions are a starting point, not a final product.
-
Always read through and edit for accuracy, clarity, and tone alignment.
-
Be especially mindful with sensitive, technical, or compliance-related content.
-
- You can always regenerate or tweak your prompt and try again.
-
Once you're satisfied, click to insert the content into the Description field.
- Make any manual edits you'd like—everything is fully editable.
Step 7: Save & Publish
Save & Publish you Location or Tour Stop to see the description on the live map!
