Localist offers two approaches to branding your calendar. Understanding which option fits your needs will help you get the most out of your investment and avoid unnecessary complexity.
Start with Base
Most calendars can achieve a polished, on-brand look using Localist's built-in style controls. These controls let you customize styles throughout your calendar like button colors, link colors, and hover states without writing any code.
We've also introduced an Extended Header where you can add call-to-action links that match your institution's public website.
If your goal is to match your institution's color palette and provide a seamless visual experience between your main website and your calendar, standard theming is likely all you need.
When Developer Theming Makes Sense
Developer Theming is a paid add-on that gives you full access to the underlying HTML of your calendar. This level of access is valuable when you need customization capabilities that go beyond color and style adjustments.
Do you need to add content that doesn't exist out of the box?
Developer Theming lets you add custom content and embeds to pages throughout your calendar. For example:
- Adding a third-party mapping provider that is NOT Google or Concept3D
- Adding and changing fields on the Public Event Submission Form
Do you want to customize or create widgets?
Localist offers a handful of prebuilt widgets for you to use. However, if you would like more widget options, we offer a custom widget library of widgets you can add to your calendar. Developer Theming is required to access these and add them to your calendar.
If you would like to build entirely new widgets that suit your event display needs, you will also need Developer Theming.
Do you have the technical resources and expertise to support it?
Developer Theming requires ongoing maintenance. Concept3D does not support custom HTML changes made to your calendar. Your team is fully responsible for testing, maintaining, and troubleshooting any changes.
Don't see the option you need?
If there's a change you'd like to make that isn't currently available, we want to hear about it. If there's a color control missing from Base theming options, or an HTML template file that isn't exposed in Developer Theming, let us know and reach out to your Partner Success Manager to submit feedback. Your input helps us prioritize enhancements that meet your Localist events needs!
